I swung by the Porsche Center after picking up groceries for the week.
The 992 looks much smaller and nimble in person to me than it has in photos:
It looks really cool. Especially in Aventurine Green.

I’ve always been a Targa guy... so this appeals to my inner 80s psyche...

I think it Looks so I much bigger due to the ridiculous wheels. They almost make you get the ceramic rotors, so they look correct.

It looks spectacular at night with the rear light that goes all the way accross

I love the way the Targas look on the 991 & 992. The return to form is awesome. I just wish it were a removable piece instead of moving glass—even though the old ones leaked like crazy.

Agreed. I still can’t believe how much better it looked in person

Agreed the return to the red bar across the rear is a great styling cue for Porsche.

I’ve got two Carerras— an 85 and 86, both Targas. That “sorta fabric” fabric was definitely a Kludge— and yeah the sealing always sucked. It was really no better a solution that the X1/9 or Scorpion, when it came right down to it.
I have always like the polished look on the pillar though. Funny how Porsche will come back and “embrace” some design detail from a prior era-- often after the user base had embellished it.

They look great despite the leaks and they are the best value for the air cooled cars these days.
If you’re going to track a car get a Cayman 987, right? For driving on the road, a Targa has style and the right sounds.

And, yet, there was actually a post the other day (On Jalop? Or TheDrive?) pointing out that the Cayman/718/Boxster actually has an inferior strut-style rear suspension, as opposed to the 911's multi-link set-up.
I honestly never realized that and bought into the “smart choice” being a track day Cayman. So, now, I’m confused.
But, if a GT4 pops up in my garage I’m keeping the damn thing...

Good point. The suspension and lack of dry sump keep it down.
But I’m still excited about Cayman GTS 4. 0. Hopefully that means the 911 GTS ha s a naturally aspirated 4.0!

The fact that they’re all widebodies now makes them all looks pretty great. Still needs the SportDesign front clip, in my mind.
The S does 0-60 in 3 seconds flat...

The Cayman GTS 4.0 is definitely on my list now. As much as I’ve dreamed about owning a GT4, it makes zero sense for me to own something like that with some of the roads I drive on daily.

I’m with you. I honestly wouldn’t have considered any 718 until this news broke. At the GT4 price point, I would look for a 997 or 991 GT3.

Hopefully they made enough 991.2 GT3 Touring s to make them depreciate some (eventually)!

That is the one! And probably no. But, it will depreciate a little along with all the 991s as they come of lease & then we can pick one up at a decent price.

One thing I really love about recent GT3/4 reviews is just how right they’re getting the suspension tuning. Seems like they really aren’t overly harsh if you actually want to use them daily.
As much as I love the ridiculous rear wings, stuff like that draws a lot of attention, so the more sleeper look of the Touring is an attractive alternative (Harris loved it enough to buy one twice!). While not nearly the same, the 718 GTS 4.0 is in the same vein as the Touring.
In the end, I’d be perfectly happy with a 981.1 Cayman S (or even a 987 S, really), but it’s fun to dream about one day owning one of these “specials”.

I really do love the new mesh wheel design.
But I made a promise to myself that my first Porsche would be an NA flat 6. =)

Get ready to watch 981 prices drop now that the 718 has a six! A 981 GTS is a good move.
I’m basically looking for an air cooled car, but the 981 is appealing.

Maybe - it’s a very expensive six!
